Because the primary product of Eco-shout is a web based
service, the organisation does not have the environmental
impact of more production intensive industries. However,
Eco-shout aims to follow sustainable practices in all its
activities and reduce its ecological footprint wherever
possible. The following measures are in place to ensure
these conditions are met:
Consumption
Minimisation
- use of paperless systems
to reduce paper consumption, and use of pre-used or
recycled paper for all office paper use. Zero use of
fresh paper made from virgin materials
- all office furniture and
supplies and computer hardware are sourced second
hand
Waste
Reduction
- all waste paper is
recycled
- all organic matter is
composted on site
- technical waste (such as
computer hardware) is re-used or recycled
- aim of zero waste to
landfill
Energy
Efficiency
- implementation of energy
efficiencies for computers (ie automatic screen shutdown
when not in use)
- office lighting is only
used when natural light is too low
- Eco-shout uses the heating
and cooling systems of Friends of the Earth. This
consists of one gas heaer which is rarely turned on. In
Summer, fans are used in the office as it becomes a
sauna.
Greenhouse Gas
Emissions
- reduction of indirect
Greenhouse Gas Emissions through minimum use of
electricity (increased energy efficiencies)
- the Eco-shout office uses
the electricity supply of Friends of the Earth. Friends
of the Earth use Greenpower to run the building,
electricity generated from sustainable sources such as
solar and wind power.
- alternative transport is
encouraged, the core group of Eco-shout either cycle or
catch public transport
Product Stewardship
Lifecycle
(sourcing, production, distribution,
use, disposal of products and services)
- Eco-shout produces
promotional materials. The paper sourced for these
materials is 100% recycled and vegetable based inks are
used; the production process is carried out by the
printing company Moule Print; distribution is carried out
with sustainable transport (bicycle, public transport
etc); we ask that people recycle promotional
materials
- Eco-shout sells patches
made from reclaimed materials. We buy some new materials
(cotton) when we have to do a big run and have not found
enough reclaimed materials. We used water based paints
and hand print patches with our own silk
screen
- Eco-shout t-shirts are all
sourced second hand and printed with our silk screen and
hand sewn
- Eco-shout uses Blessed
Earth (organic cotton wares) to source first hand
underware and singlets for screen printing
Sustainable
Investing
- Eco-shout will only invest
in projects and industries that are fundamentally
sustainable and ethical
- Eco-shout uses Bendigo
Bank for al its banking
Commitment to Ecologically
Sustainable Development
- In line with its purpose,
Eco-shout will develop only in a way that ensures its own
ecological sustainability. Eco-shout aims to act as an
agent of change towards an economy that operates on the
principle of sustainable development.
