SOCIAL POLICY 2005

The principle purpose of Eco-shout is to contribute to the environmental health of the planet.

In recognition of the implicit connection between social and environmental goals, and the fundamental right of all human beings to live with equality, justice and freedom on a healthy and peaceful planet, Eco-shout aims to uphold these rights in its own business conduct.

Human Rights
Eco-shout will uphold human rights in its business conduct and will refuse to accept payment from or promote any group or business which does not respect the human rights of all people in its own conduct. In particular, Eco-shout will not purchase products where production involves the use of child labour, sweat shop labour, or outworker labour where wage levels are below subsistence living; or where the procurement of raw materials involves the abuse of indigenous people or their land.

In order to ensure these conditions are met, Eco-shout will procure re-used and re-cycled goods where ever possible, or goods which carry guarantees such as Fair Trade, NoSweat and artisan products.

Indigenous Rights
Eco-shout operates from an office located in Melbourne on the land of the Kulin Nation, and work throughout the country, all of which is aboriginal land. Through our environmental purpose we aim to work with local indigenous groups and support campaigns that work towards a future that brings justice to indigenous people and recognises their relationship to the land here and around the world.

Workplace Practices
Eco-shout will provide a safe workplace which promotes respect for all people, provides equal opportunity employment and does not tolerate discrimination of any kind. As everyone involved in Eco-shout currently provides their skills on a voluntary basis, flexible work hours and wage determination are currently not an issue. However, Eco-shout will remain transparent in regards to recruitment, remuneration and working conditions to ensure that the workplace remains fair and open.

Social responsibility
Eco-shout aims to contribute to society in a positive way through the provision of opportunities for people to become more involved with their local communities and environment, to provide resources and support to Melbourne’s green community, and to create employment opportunities for those who seek them. Further than this, Eco-shout aims to be an agent of social change, actively promoting the creation of a more equal, just, humane and environmentally aware society.

No War
Eco-shout opposes all war instigated by governments in the name of any cause. War does irreparable damage to the lives of innocent people and the eco-systems of our planet. War is not an answer to violence, but a perpetuation of it.
