Eco-shout aims to facilitate the conservation, protection and rehabilitation of Australia’s environment through the provision of information, resources and support to groups and individuals who are actively working towards these ends. In order to fulfil its purpose, Eco-shout will:

• provide factual information regarding the state of the Australian environment to the public domain in order to enable the public’s right to know and make decisions based on accurate information;
  
  
• promote environmental events, groups and campaigns that aim to protect, conserve, rehabilitate the environment, and/or eliminate processes and practices that cause a significant impact, ongoing adverse effects, and/or irreparable damage to the environment;
  
  
• provide services to small green businesses where the business being conducted is part of a fundamentally sustainable industry and which provides products and services that contribute to the environmental health of the planet and/or provide alternatives to products/services with significant environmental impacts;
  
  
• provide information and support to individuals concerning education, training and employment in fields which are fundamentally sustainable and contribute to the environmental health of the planet and/or provide alternatives to human activities/processes with significant environmental impacts;
  
  
• inform individuals of the applicability of their knowledge and skills to environmentally sustainable outcomes within fields that are not fundamentally sustainable;
  
  
• provide practical resources and effective tools to the active environmental community of Melbourne;
  refuse to promote or receive payment from events, groups, campaigns and businesses that show disregard for the environmental health of the planet in their aims or practices;
  
  
• contribute to the integrity of environmental initiatives by exposing advertising campaigns that actively seek to mislead the public in regards to the environmental impacts of a specific activity/product/process;
  
  
• conduct our own business in an environmentally sustainable way, as outlined in the Sustainability Policy; and
  
  
• respect and promote the environment for its intrinsic value, and not just as a resource of human survival.
  
  

Sustainable is defined as: meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations of people and other species to meet their own needs (this encompasses using renewable resources in a way that does not exhaust their capacity to regenerate or degrade their overall quality, or create persistent harmful wastes)

Significant impact is defined as: an impact which causes irreversible and/or ongoing damage to the immediate environment or threatens the existence or integrity of natural processes and ecosystems and the populations of species inhabiting them.

Environmental health is defined as: an environmental state which is conducive to the ongoing existence and evolution of natural processes and eco-systems, absent of impacts that may inhibit the potential of species to thrive.
